Description
TQ 2880 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER UPPER GROSVENOR 68/50 STREET, Wl No. 12 G.V. II End of terrace town house. c.1728 by Benjamin Turnbull for himself, early C.19 alterations and probably heightening. Stucco faced, slate roof. 4 storeys and basement. 4 windows wide. Channelled ground floor with entrance to left, 6-panel door with side lights and patterned fanlight under square head; recessed sashes with channelling struck to flat arches. Segmental arched architraved windows to 1st and 2nd floors, those on 1st floor with pediments. Shallow corner pilasters frame upper floor rising to crowning cornice and blocking course; plat bands to 1st and 3rd floors. Early C.19 geometric pattern cast iron balcony to 1st floor. Painted brick irregularly windowed return to Park Street. Cast iron area railings with urn finials. Interior retains probably original plan but principally early C.19 features apart from early C.18 doors and doorcases in hall, geometric staircase with iron balusters etc. Survey of London; Vol. XL.
