Description
The Vestry and Presbytery, located at No. 114 Mount Street, was built between 1886 and 1888 by architect A E Purdie. This building features dark red machined brick with elaborate dark red terracotta decorations and slate roofs. It has two main storeys above a basement, with the vestry hall and chapel block facing Mount Street. The facade is divided into three major bays, each defined by thin projecting piers. Each bay contains pairs of mullioned and double transomed leaded casements set under flat arches on both main floors, complemented by sunk panel aprons, moulded sill bands, and string courses. A cornice projects forward over the piers, and above each bay is a gabled lucarne with flanking scrolls.
On the west elevation, the two-storey block is presented as a single major gabled bay, maintaining the same decorative details. The Presbytery, which continues at the same height, has four storeys and seven bays. The four bays on the right feature an open arcade on the ground floor, with mullioned and transomed leaded casements. The building includes moulded string and sill courses, as well as a cornice similar to the main block, with each bay topped by a lucarne dormer. Prominent ribbed chimney stacks are also present. Gothic-style iron railings enclose the wide basement area and the entrance steps leading into the arcade. This building is included for its group interest as part of the 1880s to 1890s redevelopment of Mount Street for the Grosvenor Estate.
