Description
No. 25 on Brook Street is a terrace house built around 1725, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features dark red brick and a slate roof, standing four storeys high with three windows. The ground floor has a modern shop front, while the upper floors are flanked by giant pilasters. There are plat bands at the second and third floor levels, and the main cornice and parapet are adorned with urns. The windows are revealed and have gauged brick arches; they are segmental on the first and second floors and flat on the third floor, all featuring heavy 19th-century stucco sills. Although the interior has been significantly altered, it still retains a dog-leg staircase with an open string and carved brackets at the tread ends, along with turned and twisted banisters. This building was the residence of the composer George Frideric Handel for more than 30 years, as noted by a plaque from the London County Council.
