Description

Victoria Square’s numbers 1 to 10 form a terrace of houses built between 1838 and 1839 by Matthew Wyatt. The buildings are constructed of stucco, with low slate mansard roofs. The central four houses, and the houses at each end, project slightly forward. The central four houses feature giant Corinthian pilasters that extend through the first and second floors, paired together on the central pair. The houses are three storeys high, with a basement and a mansard attic; the central pair and end houses have a full attic storey. Each house consists of two windows, except for the central pair, which each have a single tripartite window. The doorways are square-headed and feature various panelled doors. The windows are square-headed; most are sash windows with plate glass. The central houses have pedimented first-floor windows with consoles. A continuous cast iron balcony runs across the first floor. There is a balustraded parapet and cast iron area railings. The terrace is an integral part of a unified overall design, demonstrating significant group value.
