Description

Nos. 3 to 7 Bulstrode Street are a row of terraced townhouses built around 1780 to 1800. They are constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and feature slate roofs. The buildings rise four storeys plus a basement, with No. 3 having a dormered mansard roof. Each house has a front that is three windows wide, with doorways located to the right. Nos. 3 and 5 have semicircular arched doorways with architraves framing panelled doors and fanlights. Notably, No. 3 has fluted door jambs and a head decorated with lion masks. No. 7 features a panelled door and fanlight set back in panelled reveals beneath a panelled soffit, complete with a decorated doorhead and arch, framed by a wood doorcase with Corinthian pilasters and an entablature that projects forward over them. The windows are recessed plate glass sashes beneath red painted flat gauged arches, and there is a stucco plat band above the ground floors. The parapets are topped with copings, and there are cast iron area railings with foliated spear head finials. The interior of No. 7 retains delicate plasterwork ceilings in the front rooms, some chimneypieces, and a narrow open well staircase with slender turned balusters.
