Description
Nos 23 and 24 Welbeck Street are terraced houses built around 1770-1780 as part of the Portland Estate development. They are constructed from stock brick with channelled stucco on the ground floors and feature slate roofs. The buildings rise four storeys with dormered mansards and are set on basements. Each house has a three-window wide front. The doorways are located adjacent to each other, with a square-headed entrance for No 23 and a semicircular arched entrance for No 24, both featuring panelled doors with fanlights. The windows are recessed sashes, with the ground floor windows of No 23 adorned with stucco architraves and flat gauged arches above the upper floors. There is a plat band above the ground floor and a parapet with coping. The first floor has cast iron balconies, with No 23 displaying a bombé acanthus pattern and No 24 featuring a geometric design. The area railings are made of cast iron and are topped with plumbed urn finials.
