Description

This description covers a pair of piers with urns located on either side of the Tower of St Anne's in Soho, Westminster. The urns date from 1677 to 1686 or possibly the 18th century, with the north urn of the north pair removed since 1963. The urns are made of Portland stone and are set on rendered piers. They feature carved foliage, domed tops, fluted necks, and concave square bases. These urns may have originally been part of the church tower, which was designed by either Sir Christopher Wren or William Talman during its construction between 1677 and 1686, although they do not match those depicted in Maitland's illustrations.
