Description
No. 18 Gerrard Street is a terrace house dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a refronting from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of stucco and features a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall with a dormered mansard and is two windows wide. The ground floor was altered in the mid-20th century, while the upper floors showcase square-headed windows, with recessed casements on the first floor and box-framed sashes on the second floor. There are plat bands and a parapet with coping, along with panels between the upper floors that frame two wreaths. The first floor has decorated cast iron window guards. Inside, the building retains a closed string dog leg staircase from the early 18th century, with boxed-in balusters. The rooms appear to have box cornices and elements of panelling, although access is not available. Notably, No. 18 was the residence of the architect James Gibbs from 1720 to 1726.
