Description

TQ 2980 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER GERRARD STREET, W1 71/50 23.ll.78 No. 18 G.V. II Terrace house. Late C.17 or early C.18 refronted early C.19. Stucco, slate roof. 3 storeys and dormered mansard. 2 windows wide. Ground floor altered mid C.20. Upper floors have square headed windows, recessed casements to 1st floor and box framed sashes to 2nd floor. Plat bands and parapet with coping; panels between upper floors framing 2 wreaths. Decorated cast iron window guards to 1st floor. Interior retains closed string dog leg early C.18 staircase, the balusters boxed in, rooms appear to retain box cornices and elements of panelling (no access). No. 18 was the residence of James Gibbs from 1720-26. Survey of London; Vol. XXXIV.
