Description
No. 19 Gerrard Street is a terrace house built in the late 17th century and altered in the mid-19th century, including a heightening. The building features brown brick with stucco dressings and has a concealed roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and is three windows wide. The ground floor is channelled stucco, with a square-headed doorway on the right that has a panelled door and fanlight above. The upper floors have recessed sash windows, which are framed in stucco architraves and topped with segmental pediments on the first floor. A bracketed dentil cornice runs along the top of the building. The cast iron area railings have moulded finials. Inside, the house retains late 17th-century turned balusters on the upper flight of the closed string dog leg staircase, while the lower flights feature plain early 19th-century square balusters. This property is part of Nicholas Barbon's original development of Gerrard Street, which began in 1677.
