Description

TQ 2980 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER GERRARD STREET, W1 71/49 23.11.78 No. 19 G.V. II Terrace house. Late C.17, altered mid C.19 with heightening. Brown brick with stucco dressings, concealed roof. 4 storeys and basement. 3 windows wide. Chanelled stucco ground floor with square headed doorway to right, panelled door and fanlight. Recessed sashes, those on upper floors in stucco architraves and with segmental pediments on 1st floor. Bracketed dentil cornice. Cast iron area railings with moulded finials. Interior retains the late C.17 turned balusters to upper flight of closed string dog leg staircase but with plain early C.19 square balusters to lower flights. Part of Nicholas Barbon's original development of Gerrard Street begun 1677. Survey of London; Vol. XXXIV.
