Description
Asprey's is a building originally designed as a terrace of houses, dating from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century for shop and commercial use. It features a brown brick facade and slate roofs, standing four storeys tall, although the top floor has been rebuilt. The ground floor and part of the first floor are occupied by late 19th-century plate glass shop windows, which have splayed risers and are supported by slender, decorated, and fluted cast iron columns with arched heads. Above these, there is a fascia with decorative cast iron cresting. The upper floors consist of three window bays, each retaining revealed glazing bar sashes set beneath flat red brick gauged arches. A bracketed cornice runs across the range at the third floor level. The building at 15A Grafton Street, which is nearby, continues the design style. The interior shop fittings are primarily from the early 20th century.
