Description

This is a terrace of three houses, numbered 19 to 23 Craven Hill, now partially used as a museum. The houses were likely built around 1830 to 1840 and have been altered since. They are constructed of brick with stucco dressings and a slate mansard roof, and are treated as a single large house. The central house is set back and features three windows, with a ground-floor Ionic colonnade, a corniced parapet, and a balustrade. The outer houses project forward, each one window wide plus an entrance. All houses are two storeys high, with an attic and a mansard attic roof. The windows are square-headed and have stucco architraves; the main bay of the central house has tripartite windows. The central house's first floor windows are round-headed, with gauged head reveals. The centre and right-hand houses have segmental headed attic windows. The windows are sash windows, some with original glazing bars. There is a cornice above the first floor, and a smaller subsidiary cornice to the attic.
