Description
This is a grand terrace of houses located on the north-west side of Eaton Square in the City of Westminster. Built between 1826 and 1830 by Cubitt, the terrace is constructed of stucco. The properties are four storeys high, with an attic and basement, and each house is three windows wide. The central pair, the end houses, and number 74 project slightly forward, distinguished by rusticated quoins. A continuous projecting Doric colonnade runs along the ground floor, with a continuous balustrade above. The first-floor windows have pediments, with the exception of numbers 76 and 77. The second-floor windows are corniced, while all windows above the ground floor are architraved. The windows are primarily sashes with glazing bars, with French casements to the first floor. A console cornice with swags adorns the frieze above the third floor, and a subsidiary cornice marks the attic level. The terrace includes cast iron area railings, and the returns to the right and left are integral to the design. The terrace forms part of the planned layout of Eaton Square.
