Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of houses located on Inverness Terrace in Westminster. The terrace is constructed of brick with stucco dressings, and features channelled stucco to the ground floor. It is a balanced composition, with the central five houses (numbered 100 to 106 and 52 to 58) projecting slightly. The central section is accentuated by fluted Corinthian pilasters on the first and second floors, positioned between the bays. The end houses have similar pilasters separating them. The terrace is three storeys high, with an attic and basement. Each house is two windows wide. Projecting Ionic porches provide entrance access. Balconies with a bombé form are present on the first floor. The windows are mostly square-headed, although those on the second floor are round-headed. Architraves rise above the ground floor, leading to segmental pediments on the first floor, with triangular pediments on the projecting houses. The windows are predominantly sash windows with margin glazing, with French casements on the first floor. A cornice is situated above the second floor, with a subsidiary cornice to the attic. Cast iron area railings front the properties. Numbers 48 and 50 act as a junction block, connecting the symmetrical remainder of the terrace with the adjacent buildings at numbers 2 to 46.
