Description
No. 34 Grosvenor Street is a large terraced town house built between 1725 and 1728, featuring mid-19th century stucco facing and a slate roof. The building has three storeys and a basement, with a mansard roof that includes dormers. It is designed with five window bays and has giant pilasters on both the left and right sides. The façade is accented by a moulded cornice and a balustraded parapet. The ground floor has reinstated windows and a Tuscan column porch. The sash windows are set within stucco surrounds, and those on the first floor are adorned with balustrades and keystones, featuring original glazing bars. The property is also equipped with 18th century wrought iron area railings that include lampholders and link extinguishers.
Inside, the house retains a very fine original front compartment staircase, which has stone treads with carved ends and a wrought iron balustrade featuring a lyre pattern, along with stucco work on the walls and ceiling. The ground and first floor rooms preserve much of their original panelling, although some Edwardian refurbishment has occurred.
