Description
No. 43 Grosvenor Street is a terraced town house built in 1726, with early to mid-19th century alterations. The building features brown brick with stuccoed banded rustication on the ground floor and has a slate roof. It stands four storeys high, including a basement and a dormered mansard, and has four windows. A moulded brick cornice is present at the third floor level, topped by a parapet with coping. To the right, there is a stuccoed porch with Ionic columns, which was added in 1796. The windows are sashes set in shallow reveals beneath segmental red brick arches. The property is also adorned with wrought iron area railings from the 18th century, featuring urn finials.
Inside, the first-floor front rooms boast decorated plaster ceilings; the left room showcases Rococo motifs and a bracketed cornice, while the right room features a bold wreath surround with swags and moulded heads in the panelled fields. Although the staircase has been removed, the compartment walls and ceiling still display their original plasterwork.
