Description

33 D'Arblay Street is a terraced house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of yellow stock brick, with some later patching and evidence of tuck pointing. The building has four storeys and a basement, featuring four windows. The ground floor includes an early 19th-century shop front with pilasters and a four-panelled stallboard; the glazing has been altered, and a 20th-century fascia likely covers the original cornice. The shop door is half-glazed with an overlight, while the house door to the right is panelled and also has an overlight. To the right, there is a vehicle entrance leading to Wardour Mews. The windows have gauged brick flat arches and recessed sashes with original glazing bars. The parapet has been rebuilt. The rear facade is made of multi-coloured stock brick, with segmental arches over recessed sashes. The vehicle entrance features a timber frame. The shop interior has been altered in the 20th century. The house entrance has a dog-leg stair with column newels and stick balusters, extending the full height of the house from the first floor. The plan retains mostly original form, with corner chimney breasts in the first and second-floor left-hand back rooms. The first-floor front rooms have sashes with splayed reveals and panelled aprons, as well as cast iron hob fireplaces with plain wooden chimney pieces.
