Description
No. 3 Greek Street is a terrace house built around 1744 by Joseph Pearce, with alterations made in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of painted brick and has a concealed roof. It stands four storeys tall, with the top floor being a later addition, and is two windows wide. The ground floor features an early 19th-century shop front, with flanking house and shop doors framed by pilasters that support console stops of an entablature-fascia. The display window has thin glazing bars and curves inward to the shop door, which is panelled and glazed on the left side. To the right is a panelled house door with a rectangular fanlight above it. The upper floors have recessed sash windows set within stucco architraves, and the building is topped with a parapet that has coping.
The rear elevation retains original brickwork and includes a closet with a weatherboarded timber-framed south wall and segmental arched windows. Inside, the first and second-floor rooms, as well as the stairwell, are fully panelled. The staircase is dog-legged with closed strings, turned balusters, and column newels, becoming simpler above the first floor. The interior also features plain and enriched box cornices.
