Description
No. 14 Manette Street is a former parish workhouse built between 1770 and 1771 by James Paine. The building was heightened and a porch was likely added in 1804. It has a stucco facade and a slate roof, standing four storeys tall with a basement and a dormered mansard. The structure is five windows wide. The central enclosed stucco porch, featuring Doric piers from around 1804, contains a square-headed doorway with a six-panel door and a fanlight above. The windows have square-headed recessed glazing bar sashes of graduated heights and are widely spaced. There is a plat band and a sill band at the first floor level, along with a cornice and a pedimental blocking course. The area is enclosed by railings topped with flambé torch finials.
