Description

Nos 48 to 52 Long Acre are a row of terrace houses with shops, built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of stock brick, with Nos 50 and 52 painted, and feature slate roofs. The buildings rise to four storeys, with each front typically having two windows, except for No 52, which has three. The ground floors have mid to late 19th century warehouse fronts that were later altered into shop fronts in the late 20th century. Nos 48 and 49 have a double front with wooden pilasters supporting an entablature. No 50 has a square-headed house doorway on the left, featuring a panelled door and fanlight, with a later 19th century frame for the shop front that includes consoles flanking the fascia. Nos 51 and 52 have a late 20th century frontage with segmental arched openings and dwarf Ionic columns supporting a fascia and bracketed cornice. The upper floors have recessed windows, most of which retain glazing bar sashes, while a few have casements, all set under flat gauged arches. The parapet has coping, and No 52 features cast iron balconettes on the second floor. The buildings also retain original lead rainwater heads and downpipes. This listing is included for its group interest only.
