Description
No. 45 Upper Grosvenor Street is a terraced town house built between 1727 and 1730, likely designed by carpenter Charles Griffith. The building has been heightened in the 19th century and features a brown brick exterior with a slate roof. It stands five storeys tall with a basement and is three windows wide. The entrance is located to the left, balancing the entrance of No. 44, and includes an enclosed stone porch supported by engaged Doric columns. The windows are recessed glazing bar sashes set under cambered arches. There is a plat band over the ground floor, a brick band over the second floor, and the parapet coping is continuous with that of No. 44. The first floor features early 19th century cast iron balconettes, and there are wrought iron area railings. The rear elevation is a full-height bowed design with three windows, also dating from the early 19th century. The interior retains a convincing early Georgian style and likely includes some genuine features that were reset by Turner Lord and Co. around 1922-1923. For information on the former stable block, see No. 45 Reeves Mews.
