Description
This is a grand terrace of houses dating from around 1825. It was built as part of a larger development, laid out and largely designed by Thomas and Lewis Cubitt. The buildings are constructed of stucco with slate mansard roofs. Each house is three windows wide, with three storeys, an attic, an attic mansard and a basement. The centre and end pairs of houses project slightly, featuring giant, fluted Corinthian columns. A pedimented attic tops the central section. The ground floor is treated with channelling. Some houses have projecting Greek Doric porches, segmental-headed entrances, and round-headed ground floor windows. Upper floor windows are mostly square-headed, with architraved, sash windows and glazing bars. Some have French casements and continuous cast-iron balconies to the first floor. A prominent cornice sits above the second floor, with a subsidiary cornice above the third. Cast-iron area railings are present, along with pilastered returns.
