Description
The Church of St Michael is a church dating from 1846, designed by Cundy Junior. A War Memorial Chapel was added to the north-east end in 1920, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. The church is constructed of coursed rubble stone with ashlar dressings and a pitched slate roof, topped with a spire. It is built in the Decorated style and has a broad, multi-gabled form, with a north tower of two stages and a recessed broach spire. The nave has full-height galleried aisles to the north and south and entrances to the north, south, and west. The Chester Square elevation features five gabled bays, the centre taller and broader, with a five-light traceried window. A War Memorial Chapel is located to the north-east with a rounded apse. Inside the church are two south windows dating from 1882, designed by Morris and Co, and a west window by Hugh Easton.
