Description
Tooting Bec Station is a London Underground station built in 1926 by Charles Holden. The station features an astylar Portland stone corner building with two street entrances, each having a continuous moulded lintel and canopy. Above these entrances is a large triple window that includes a glazed roundel sign, tapering mullions, and spherical capitals. Inside, the ticket hall is adorned with wall tiling and has a trabeated ceiling. There is also a secondary entrance building located between Stapleton and Tooting Bec Roads, designed in a similar style. The station includes modern escalators, while the sub-surface platforms and passages still showcase their original tiled decoration and many original signs. Tooting Bec Station is one of several stations on the Northern Line extension that were designed by Holden.
