Description

The Tomb of Samuel Coppendale, located at St Mattias in Poplar, is a Grade II listed monument dating from around 1722, with the designer remaining unknown. It features a stone pedestal that is rectangular in shape, adorned with a heraldic cartouche surrounded by an auricular design, and has a projecting cornice. Above the pedestal stands a panelled obelisk, which rests on ball feet and is topped by an urn that is currently detached. Samuel Coppendale was known to be a malt distiller.
