Description
The Church of St Matthias was built around 1650-1654 on land donated by the East India Company and was largely rebuilt by them in 1776. The nave features arcades formed with timber posts. The church contains interesting monuments both inside and in the churchyard. In 1875, the church was altered and enlarged by architect Teulon, who clad the exterior with Kentish ragstone. A wooden cupola is also present. The church is included in the heritage listing for its historical associations and interior features.
