Description

The Tomb of Hugh McIntosh, located at St Mattias in Poplar, is a chest tomb dating from around 1840, with the designer unknown. It is constructed from stone and features a distinctly severe style influenced by Egyptian design. The tomb sits on a cambered base and has a rectangular moulded plinth with battered sides, each side adorned with raised rectangular panels, which are inscribed on the long sides. A continuous coved cornice supports a flat cover. Hugh McIntosh was known as a dock contractor.
