Description

The air shaft to the Rotherhithe Tunnel, built between 1904 and 1908, is a circular single-storey structure made of red brick with Portland stone dressings. This 'drum' design includes a staircase leading down to the tunnel and a pedestrian footpath. It is identical in design to the Surrey Shore air shaft located on Rotherhithe Street.
