Description

The wall closing the north end of the courtyard, built around 1820, is associated with the Shadwell dock wall and is of the same height. It abuts the churchyard retaining wall and features two large plain buttress piers. The stone coping is broken forward over the wall, which has a sharply curved return leading to the doorway of No. 1. This wall is included for its group value with St Paul's Terrace and has group value with the church, as it adjoins the churchyard wall. Additionally, it has sociological interest as it blocks the entrance to the adjacent houses from the Highway, making them accessible only via an alley leading from the dockside.
