Description
St Paul's Rectory is a town house built around 1820, featuring three storeys and constructed from stock brick. It has a broad three-bay front, with the basement walls and first-floor platband stuccoed, as well as the flat arches of the windows. The building is topped with a thin band cornice and a parapet with coping, and it has coped gable ends concealing a slate roof. The windows are revealed glazing bar sashes.
The entrance, located to the right on the ground floor, features a tripartite glazing bar with sidelights and panelled risers, all within a stucco reveal that has an arched top. The door consists of six moulded panels and has a moulded door head, topped by a large semi-circular fanlight divided vertically by thin glazing bars. The arch above the door is made of gauged brickwork.
In front of the building, there is an area with cast iron spearhead railings supported by urn standards, set on a dwarf stone wall that curves into the doorway, with a corresponding short flanking section curving out to the right. There is also a rear extension dating from around 1870 to 1880. The rectory is of interest due to its group value with St Paul's Church and Church House, located on The Highway.
