2-24, APPROACH ROAD E2

This is a late 19th-century terrace of shops and dwellings located on Approach Road E2. The building is constructed of stock brick with a stucco eaves cornice, although the cornice is missing from numbers 4, 6, and 8. A rusticated and vermiculated band of brickwork emphasizes the corners above the ground floor. The terrace is three storeys high and has basements. Most properties have two windows, but number 2 has three. The windows are sash windows, all set within moulded stucco architraves, with bracketed labels above those on the first floor. Ground floor bay windows are present, and most retain a bracketed stucco cornice. The doorways are stuccoed, with tented cornices above round-arched openings featuring decorative moulding, vermiculated spandrels, and mask keystones, leading to steps. Numbers 2 to 24 form a group with the Parmiters School, its school wall, gate piers, and with properties at numbers 27 to 45 and 49 to 71 on the opposite side of the road.
