Description
Nos. 402 and 404 on Commercial Road are early 19th-century buildings constructed of stock brick, featuring a cornice and a stone blocking course. The roof of No. 402 is covered with slate, while No. 404 has a hipped mansard roof made of corrugated asbestos. Both buildings are three stories tall and have basements, with three windows each. The top two stories have windows with painted reveals and flat gauged arches, and the sashes include some with glazing bars. There is an iron balcony across the first floor, and the ground floor windows are set in recessed arches with impost bands. The ground floor of No. 404 is finished in stucco. Both buildings have round-headed doors with plain fanlights, and some wrought iron railings are still present. Nos. 396 to 410 (even) form a group with these buildings.
