Description
The Clergy House of St Peter's Church is a late 19th-century building consisting of three sections that span the central arch, which provides access to the courtyard and to St Peter's Church (London Docks) at the rear. A tablet on the building indicates that it was erected as a memorial to Father Lowder, the founder of the parish and its first Vicar. The structure is made of stock brick and red brick, with the two outer wings being slightly advanced.
The south wing has three storeys and a basement, featuring two windows that are mostly sash, although the top windows are fixed three-light casements. It has segmental arches and string courses below the sill height, along with a coped gable that includes a lancet window and one window angled towards the street.
The centre wing also has three storeys. The ground floor showcases a double Gothic arch made of red brick, adorned with geometric designs in red and buff brickwork, supported by stone pillars. Above, there are two three-light windows with stone mullions and transoms, topped with trefoil heads and a brick segmental arch. The second floor contains two sash windows and string courses at sill height.
The north wing is two storeys with a basement and features three windows. It has similar string courses and window styles as the south wing. The facade includes a blue plaque noting that Lincoln Stanhope Wright, a Vicar, lived here.
