Description
Nos. 2-8 Jephson Street are four mid-19th century houses located in Southwark. They are constructed of stock brick with stucco dressings and feature slate roofs. No. 2 has a mansard roof with fishscale tiling that was added in the late 19th century. The buildings are two storeys high, with a basement and half dormers. Each house has a single dormer that contains a 2x2 sash window set beneath a segmental brick arch, which interrupts a bracketed eaves cornice.
On the first floor, all houses feature 6x6 sash windows beneath rectangular fanlights, with doorcases that have cornices supported by consoles. Adjacent to these, there is a 6x6 sash window with margin lights under a flat arch. The basement level is stuccoed and has late 20th-century glazed doors, while the other windows maintain their original design. Each front door is accessed by a flight of five steps. For Nos. 2 and 6, the cornice of the doorcase extends to include the surround of the adjacent window, which is corbelled out from the main plane of the elevation. The houses form an attractive and cohesive group with Nos. 1-9 (odd).
