Description

Nos. 1 to 7 Highgate Road are a group of four terraced houses dating from circa 1786, with alterations made in the early 19th century. Number 3 was refaced in the 20th century to match the original appearance. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick, with No.1 having a rusticated stucco ground floor. No.5 has a slated mansard roof with a dormer. Nos. 1 and 7 are four storeys with semi-basements, while Nos. 3 and 5 are three storeys (with an attic to No.5) and have semi-basements. The window arrangements are three windows wide for Nos. 1 and 7, and two windows wide for Nos. 3 and 5. No.1 has a square-headed doorway with an overlight, while Nos. 3 to 7 have round-arched doorways with fanlights; No.3 features a mask keystone and impost blocks, No.5 has fluted half columns, and No.7 has a radial fanlight. All doorways have 20th-century doors. The recessed sash windows have gauged brick flat arches, with Nos. 1 & 5 exhibiting glazing bars. No.1 has a cast-iron balcony to the first floor. Stucco sill bands are present at the first and third floors of No.1, and at the first floor of No.7. The buildings have parapets. The interiors were not inspected.
