Description

1-9 Jephson Street is a row of five terraced houses built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of stock brick with stucco dressings and feature slate roofs. The buildings are two storeys high with a basement and half dormers. Each house has a single dormer that includes a 2x2 sash window set beneath a segmental brick arch, which interrupts a bracketed eaves cornice. On the first floor, all the houses have 6x6 sash windows positioned under flat arches. The ground floor features a recessed four-panel door topped by a rectangular fanlight, with a doorcase cornice supported by consoles next to a 6x6 sash window with margin lights, also under a flat arch. The basement is stuccoed and has late 20th-century glazed doors, while the rest of the glazing retains its original design. Each front door is accessed by a flight of five steps. The row forms an attractive and coherent group with the even-numbered houses at 2-8 Jephson Street.
