Description
Numbers 2-5 and attached railings are a group of four terraced houses dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with precisely shaped (gauged) bricks used around the windows and doors. The roofs are parapeted, meaning they have a low, flat top with a decorative coping. The houses are three storeys high, with a basement level, and have three windows on the front of Number 2, while the remaining houses have two windows each. Each house has a round-arched entrance with a fanlight above the door. Numbers 2 and 3 feature original two-panel doors with decorative studs. All other window and door openings are flat-arched. A continuous entablature runs along the fronts of the houses, unifying their appearance. Chimneys are built into the party walls between the properties. The interiors have not been inspected. The group value of the property stems from its contribution to the architectural character and appearance of the square. Railings are attached to the stairs and areas in front of the houses.
