Description
The wall of the recreation ground, originally part of a Quaker burial ground, dates back to 1697 and has undergone later rebuildings. It is constructed of brick and features a stone tablet that states, "This wall being 29 feet and 3 inches in length is the property of and was built by John Savidge 1749 and 1750." Additionally, there is a granite slab indicating ownership by the Society of Friends, with the date of purchase in 1697 and the date of closing in 1855. The wall is adorned with shields that are incised with numbers and letters. Several tombstones, mostly illegible, are placed against the walls, with one dating from 1791. Remnants of a meeting house are believed to remain at the entrance.
