Description
The Central Buffet at Custom House is a former restaurant built in 1883 by Vigers and Wagstaffe. The building is constructed from rendered and whitewashed brick, featuring elaborate dressings and a plain tile roof with various moulded stacks. It is designed in a free classical style and consists of a single storey with an attic.
The symmetrical front has a central round two-storey bay with a curving roof topped with a finial. On either side of this bay, there are windows set back, with a parapet at the front and a facing gable at each end. The overall design includes a ten-window range plus a seven-window bay, with Ionic pilasters in between.
There are doorways located to the centre left and right, each with oval windows above set in cartouches. The upper section features similar fenestration, with three-light mullioned windows in the gables. The ends of the building also display similar doorways, windows, and gables. The building is currently disused.
