Description
The war memorial at the former St Mark's Church, now known as Brick Lane Music Hall, is made of polished grey granite and features leaded lettering. It is designed as a Celtic cross set on a tall pedestal with a pedimented top, which is supported by a three-stage plinth. The main inscription on the memorial states: "In memory / of / the men / of / Silvertown / who gave their lives / in the / Great War / that we might live / 1914-1918," with an additional inscription for the Second World War, reading, "and in the / Second Great War / 1939-1945." The four faces of the upper section are inscribed with the words "Remembrance," "Honour," "Unity," and "Courage." The plinth carries the inscription, "Their names shall live for ever."
