Description
North Woolwich Station, which has been converted into a railway museum, was built in 1847 by Sir William Tite. The building is constructed of brick with stucco quoins and dressings, topped with a slate roof. It stands two storeys high and features a façade with a layout of 1:4:1 bays. The central bays are set slightly back on the ground floor, creating a more pronounced recess on the first floor. The side bays contain heavily rusticated arched windows with Tuscan surrounds, supporting an entablature that runs across the centre of the building, culminating in a pierced parapet. Above these windows are tripartite sash windows. The central section has two arched recessed sashes with an altered central entry on the ground floor, and plain French casements on the first floor. The roof features a parapet. The rear elevation is plain and has not been altered. The platform retains its turntable, and there are cast iron lamp standards on the platform.
