Description

The Former Regency Hotel and 5-7 Montpelier Row is a late 18th-century terrace comprising three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with three windows. The building is constructed of multicoloured stock brick and features a stone-coped parapet. It has a slated mansard roof with two square dormers, except for No 6, which has one long dormer. Some rebuilding has occurred on the upper floors. The windows are recessed with gauged flat brick arches and replaced sash windows that include glazing bars, except for No 7, which has lost its bars. The first-floor windows of No 5 are long casements that open onto a wrought iron balcony.

No 5 has round-headed doors and windows set in round-arched recesses on the ground floor. It features a six-panel door with a radial fanlight. No 6 has a later rounded low window with reeded pilasters on the ground floor, and its door has four fielded upper panels. The cornice head is continuous with the impost block of a round architrave that includes a keystone. The reveal is panelled, and there is a patterned fanlight. The Doric doorcase has an open pediment with cyma brackets and dentils.

Nos 7-11 have moulded stucco architraves for the ground floor windows. No 7 features a round-arched doorway with a plain fanlight in a later stucco surround. No 8 has a round gauged brick door arch with a plain fanlight. Nos 9 and 10 have had their doors replaced by windows, while No 11 has a modern double door with a plain fanlight set in a round moulded architrave that includes a keystone and impost blocks. There is a modified entablature surround with rusticated pilasters. Wrought iron area railings are present at No 7.

Nos 1 to 16 and Nos 18 to 20 form a group.
