Description

The Terrace is a group of seven houses built around 1791, located on the east side of Grove Street in Royal Victoria Yard. Each house has three storeys and a basement, with three windows on the front. The design features a symmetrical layout, with a slightly projecting central section that has a pediment, flanked by the end houses. The exterior is made of multicoloured stock brick, topped with a stone cornice and parapet coping.

The windows are recessed sash types with glazing bars, although some have been replaced. The ground floor windows in the centre and at the ends are set in round-arched recesses, featuring a stone impost band. The doors of the outer houses are located in the end bays, while the central door is aligned with the axis of the building, with paired doors in between. These doors have console bracketed cornices and consist of six fielded panels topped with rectangular fanlights. The paired doors also feature moulded architraves and decorative fanlights. Additionally, there are cast iron guards on the ground floor windows of the outer houses.

The entire block is currently being converted into flats by the Greater London Council. Some internal features, such as curved staircases, panelled dados, arches, and screens in the halls, will be preserved.
