Description
16 to 21 Grafton Square is a mid-19th century terrace of houses, each featuring three storeys and a basement, with two windows. Number 16 has one window set back and a two-storey entrance bay, similar to Number 21. The buildings are finished in stucco, with the ground floor and basement displaying banded rustication beneath a cornice that is continuous with the door and window cornices. This cornice supports pilasters that hold up the main frieze, cornice, and a panelled parapet with balustraded sections. The terrace features alternating single and tripartite sash windows with horizontal bars, while the second floor windows are framed in moulded architraves. The ground and first floor windows have ornamental surrounds depicting sunflower stems in high relief, with the flowers represented as angle paterae. There are console bracketed cornices above the windows, and the ground floor windows are adorned with pediments and cast iron guards. Access to the houses is via six steps, which have stuccoed balustrades, leading to four-panel doors set back behind a doorway that features a similar architrave and console bracketed cornice.
