Description

St Andrew's and St John's Church of England Primary School dates to circa 1868, designed by S S Teulon. It is a U-shaped, three-storey building with a six-window front, and three and five windows on the inner returns. The construction is of stock brick with dressings in red brick and stone. It has high-pitched slated roofs. The inner facades are relatively plain, with flush red brick bands and arches to paired windows incorporating four-centred heads and sloping stone sills. The outer gable ends feature grouped pointed windows above and four-centred windows below, with stone hoodmoulds dividing the wide red brick extrados. Stone gable kneelers and a nailhaid impost string are also present at the top windows.
