Description
The London Nautical School is an early 19th-century building featuring a central block that is three storeys high with a basement and three windows. Flanking this central block are one-storey side wings, each with three windows. In the mid-19th century, an additional storey was added to the central block, featuring a mansard roof with dormers, along with subsequent rear additions. The building is constructed of stock brick with stone dressings, which include a basement plinth, cill bands on the first and second floors, architraves for the first-floor windows, a top cornice, and a peaked blocking course in the centre of the main block. The side wings have a wide first-floor band and a parapet that ramps up to an entablature supported by flat pilasters. The windows have been replaced with sash windows that include glazing bars and are set under gauged brick arches, with round-headed windows in the arcaded ground floor of the wings. Access to the building is via three steps leading to a central Doric porch in antis, which features an eight-panel double door. The property is also enclosed by spade-headed wrought iron area railings.
