Description

This is a row of nine tall villas built in the early to mid-19th century, located on the west side of Foxley Road. Each villa stands three stories high with a basement and features two windows. They are connected by a single-story entrance link, which is set back from the main facades. The villas are constructed of stock brick with rebated angles, and have wide recesses along their central axis. They have low-pitched, pyramidal slate roofs with eaves soffits. The basements are stuccoed and banded. Sash windows with glazing bars are set within gauged brick arches, with the ground floor windows having a round-headed shape within round-arched recesses. Eight steps lead to six-panel doors, each topped with patterned fanlights and recessed within porch links featuring square columns and entablatures. No. 34 in the row has a Greater London Council (GLC) blue plaque commemorating David Cox, the artist (1785-1859), who lived there. The group of villas is listed for their group value.
