Description
Nos 55 and 57 Rectory Grove is a substantial mid-19th century pair of houses, each with two storeys, an attic, and a basement, featuring two windows. Number 57 has an additional two-storey bay on the right. The buildings are constructed of stucco with incised lines and have banded rustication at the ground floor basement. They feature a top entablature with a modillion cornice blocking course and a slate mansard roof with dormers. All windows are sashes with glazing bars, and the first-floor windows have moulded architraves. The ground floor windows have raised surrounds decorated with a stem pattern and angle flower paterae beneath console bracketed cornices with pediments. The windows also have projecting cills with ornamental cast iron guards. Access to the houses is via ten steps, with No 57 featuring a stuccoed balustrade, leading to half-glazed four-panel doors set back behind an entablature surround.
