Description

This is an early to mid-18th century pair of houses that was refronted in the early 19th century, located at Rectory Grove. The buildings are two storeys with an attic and basement, and comprise a three-window main block, with a projecting one-bay wing. They have rounded gambrel roofs, which are lower over the wings and now covered with modern tiles. The construction is stock brick with stone-coped parapets. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are set within stucco-lined reveals and have gauged yellow brick arches above them. Late 19th-century flat-headed sash dormers are present. The buildings have stuccoed plinths, with the ground floor on the left-hand side of number 10 also stuccoed. There are five steps leading to a half-glazed four-panel door with a reeded head, reeded architrave, and a patterned fanlight set within a round gauged brick arch. Number 10 has a door of six beaded panels with a plain fanlight, otherwise similar to the doorway of number 8. A wrought iron handrail leads to the steps.
