Description

Streatham Methodist Church was built in 1900 by Wheeler and Speed in the Art and Craft Gothic style. The church is constructed of red brick with stone dressings, featuring cross-banding and convex curved segmental or Tudor-arched lintels above wide windows that have cusped heads. It is a long building with a shallow gable at the main west end, and it includes battered angle buttresses as well as similar bay division buttresses along the sides. The south transept has a shallow gable, and there are tall, mullioned and double-transomed windows on the south side. At the west end, the main window is divided by a battered buttress that extends through the bell openings nearly to the peak of the gable. The west porch is canted with a battlemented parapet and features blank stone tracery. There are two segmental arches leading to set back doors, which are fitted with good iron hinges.
