Description

The monument to Lieutenant Colonel William Boyce is located north of the west end of St Leonard's Church on Streatham High Road, SW16. This Grade II listed chest tomb, which commemorates Lieutenant Colonel William Boyce who died in 1808, was created by Coade & Sealy in London. It is made of coadestone and is enclosed by iron railings. The chest tomb sits on a simply-moulded plinth and features weathered, simply-moulded panels. The main sides are flanked by inverted crossed torches, while the east side bears a commemorative inscription. The top slab is adorned with radiating laurel leaves and rests on a moulded plinth that likely once held an urn. The tomb is supported by a rectangular slab, which is surrounded by spiked railings. The standards of the railings are columnar, with vase-on-ball bases and mouldings.
